This program is the Industry required pathway to the basic competencies needed for middle and upper level accounting jobs in all areas of commerce and industry. Students will continue to develop basic accounting skills and learn preparation of income tax returns, managing budgets and forecasts, preparation of financial reports for a reporting entity, implementing and maintaining internal control procedures, and providing management accounting information.

Duration:  52 weeks (40 weeks face to face study + 12 weeks holiday break)

There is no specified entry requirement for this course as per FNS training package.

Course Description

Course Structure(Pathway Entry)

This course structure must be followed by those students who have successfully completed FNS40615 – Certificate IV in Accounting qualification.

Core Units

There are six (6) core units specified for this qualification in FNS training package:

  • FNSACC501 Provide financial and business performance information
  • FNSACC502 Prepare tax documentation for individuals**
  • FNSACC503 Manage budgets and forecasts
  • FNSACC504 Prepare financial reports for corporate entities*
  • FNSACC506 Implement and maintain internal control procedures
  • FNSACC507 Provide management accounting information

*The following units must have been completed as prerequisite unit requirements:

  • BSBFIA401 Prepare financial reports
  • FNSACC301 Process financial transactions and extract interim reports

** Units included in the Tax Practitioners Board approved course in Australian taxation law:
FNSSS00003 Taxation law for tax agents Skill Set (Tax documentation) - FNSACC502 and FNSACC601

Elective Units

The following electives have been selected for inclusion. These units were chosen after consideration of the training package guidelines and industry feedback.

  • BSBITU402 Develop and use complex spreadsheets
  • FNSACC401 Process business tax requirements***
  • FNSACC403 Make decisions in a legal context***
  • FNSINC602 Interpret and use financial statistics and tools
  • BSBLDR402Lead effective workplace relationships

Students are required to complete all of the above elective units.
***Imported units from Certificate IV level.
