We learn in many different ways and through many different means.  We learn through life and work experience, self-study, training on-the-job and formal credit and non-credit courses.  RPL ( Recognition of Prior Learning) provides an opportunity to recognize previous knowledge and skills while allowing individuals to build on their existing knowledge.

In the past, post-secondary educational institutions only gave credit for learning that occurred through formal instruction in their own classrooms.  Even courses from similar post-secondary educational institutions often were not recognized. Prior Learning Recognition is changing this practice. AITE provides the opportunity for students to apply to have prior learning considered towards Diploma course where the prior learning is related to assessable components of the course. Forms of prior learning include previous study from recognized institutions, relevant work or life experience or courses undertaken outside recognized institutes.

Because RPL is an evaluation that determines equivalency for credit to a AITE course, it may save you time and eliminate repetitive training when you are enrolled.

RPL uses a valid and reliable assessment of the knowledge and skills you learned through non-formal education, training or experience such as:

The RPL process helps you identify your previous learning.  This learning is then compared to AITE course outcomes.  If your non-formal learning matches identified  AITE course outcomes, you will earn credit for that course.

Your evidence will be matched with the course learning outcomes you are challenging for credit. AITE program content experts will evaluate your knowledge and skills.

If you have already taken courses from another accredited or unaccredited institution, you may be eligible for a Degree or credits towards a Degree.

Your assessment may include a variety of techniques such as:

College credit can be earned in specific subject areas through the satisfactory completion of College Level Examination Program exams and/or by satisfactory scores on tests administered by university departments. Such credits may be used to satisfy degree requirements.
