39200QLD VOCATIONAL GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN TESOL
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Do you want to teach English in Australia or overseas? Our Vocational Graduate Certificate in TESOL is
specifically designed to give you the practical skills to teach English in Australia or internationally. You will learn
the latest teaching strategies and methodology in practical classes for developing the English language
proficiency of a wide range of second language learners.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You may enrol in 39200QLD Vocational Graduate Certificate in TESOL if you have the following:
• a Bachelor Degree (any discipline), three-year diploma or other equivalent higher education qualification.
or
• not less than three years full-time vocational TESOL experience (or equivalent) without a recognised
higher education qualification
and for applicants from a non-English speaking background:
• IELTS 6.5 with no score under 6 / ISLPR two skills at 3 and two at 3+ (or equivalent) as a minimum.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Upon successful completion of the program you will have the necessary teaching and linguistics skills to teach
English competently and confidently in the following situations:
• to groups of visiting students on short term study tours
• to small groups of migrants in a supervised and limited capacity for the development of general English
skills
• in Australian ELICOS schools if you have additional qualifications
• to overseas students on an individual tuition or small group tutorial basis
• overseas institutions not governed by Australian standards where predominantly conversation English
teaching is required.
PROGRAM DURATION
Flexible:
Program length: Six months full time (One semester) 220 hours
Delivery modes: two units are online, two units are teaching practicum
Practicum units require a total of four weeks and will be delivered at AITE campus (off site delivery may be
negotiated in certain circumstances).
PROGRAM ARTICULATION
The units in this program make up half of 39201QLD Vocational Graduate Diploma of TESOL.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Individuals may receive credit for their knowledge and skills through recognition of prior learning (RPL) upon
completion of the RPL process.
The process will involve an initial meeting with an assessor to discuss your needs. Fees may be applicable for
this service. You will then be required to gather your evidence; enrol into the class/es and submit your
application for assessment.
Assessment may include skills and achievements from:
• Work experience (paid and unpaid)
• Life experience (for example leisure pursuits or voluntary work)
• Previous study (formal or informal training and education, for example industry training, school, college or adult
education classes)
In order to grant RPL, an assessor must be confident that candidates are currently competent. Evidence used
for assessment may take a variety of forms and could include certification, references from past employers, work
samples, testimonials from clients and challenge testing.
