39201QLD VOCATIONAL GRADUATE DIPLOMA OF TESOL

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Do you want to teach English to speakers of other languages in Australia or overseas? Our Vocational Graduate

Diploma of TESOL is specifically designed to give you the practical skills to teach English in Australia or

internationally. You will learn the latest teaching strategies and methodology in practical classes for developing the

English language proficiency of a wide range of second language learners.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You may enrol in 39201QLD Vocational Graduate Diploma of TESOL if you have the following:

• a Bachelor Degree (any discipline), three-year diploma or other equivalent higher education qualification.

or

• not less than three years full-time vocational TESOL experience (or equivalent) without a recognised higher

education qualification

….and for applicants from a non-English speaking background:

• IELTS 6.5 with no score under 6 / ISLPR two skills at 3 and two at 3+ (or equivalent) as a minimum.

Applicants who have already completed the 39200 Vocational Graduate Diploma of TESOL or equivalent or hold a

Certificate IV in TESOL and three years post-qualification full-time TESOL teaching experience may apply for RPL

for direct entry into the Vocational Diploma units.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Upon successful completion of the program you will have the necessary teaching and linguistics skills to teach

English competently and confidently in the following situations:

• to groups of visiting students on short term study tours

• in Adult Migrant English Programs

• in Australian ELICOS schools if you have additional qualifications

• to overseas students in Australia or English students in your home country on an individual tuition or small

group tutorial basis

• overseas teaching conversational English on a working holiday program or assistant language teacher program

• mid to long term in kindergartens, private and public schools, colleges, universities, companies and English

language schools overseas, though a Bachelor degree is often required to obtain a work visa

In addition, because of the extended training graduates are more fully prepared for teaching duties, equipped to

fulfil greater responsibility and capable of teaching in areas of TESOL specialisation. This leads to enhanced

employment opportunities in Australia and overseas.

PROGRAM DURATION

Flexible

Program length: One year full-time (two semesters) - 420 hours – to complete online units, teaching practicum

and assessments

Delivery modes: Five units are online, three units are teaching practicum

Practicum units require a total of six weeks and will be delivered at AITE campus (off site delivery

may be negotiated in certain circumstances).

PROGRAM ARTICULATION

Articulation to post-graduate Masters Degree TESOL is possible, but will need to be negotiated on an individual

basis with universities.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Individuals may receive credit for their knowledge and skills through recognition of prior learning (RPL) upon

completion of the RPL process. The process will involve an initial meeting with an assessor to discuss your needs.

Fees may be applicable for this service. You will then be required to gather your evidence, enrol into the class/es

and submit your application for assessment.

Assessment may include skills and achievements from:

Work experience (paid and unpaid)

Life experience (for example leisure pursuits or voluntary work)

adult education classes)

In order to grant RPL, an assessor must be confident that candidates are currently competent. Evidence used for

assessment may take a variety of forms and could include certification, references from past employers, work

samples, testimonials from clients, and challenge testing.

APPLICATIONS CLOSE

There are four intakes per year: February, May, August, and November.

Tuition Fees: $4,000 Textbooks and course materials: $500.00

Please note all programs are subject to a $50 Administration Fee per year, payable on enrolment.
